About Saraswati Maha Puja
Significance of Saraswati Maha Puja
Saraswati Maha Puja is a devotional ceremony dedicated to Goddess Saraswati - the deity of knowledge, wisdom, music, arts and learning. Traditionally performed on Vasant Panchami and before important academic milestones, this puja invokes the goddess's blessings for clarity of thought, memory, concentration and creative expression. The ritual includes invocation of Goddess Saraswati along with chanting of the Saraswati Vandana: "Ya Kundendu Tusharahara Dhavala Ya Shubhra Vastravrita, Ya Veenavara Dandamanditakara Ya Shwetapadmasana" - meaning salutations to the Goddess who is as white as jasmine, holding the veena, seated on a white lotus. Widely performed by students before examinations, by artists and musicians, and by families wishing to bless their children's education.
