Invoke the blessings of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for prosperity, abundance, happiness and positive beginnings.
Pitru Shanti Maha Puja is one of the most revered rituals in Vedic tradition, performed to honour one's ancestors (Pitrus) and seek their blessings for the family's peace and prosperity.
According to Vedic belief, when ancestral souls remain in an unsettled state, it is said to reflect as instability, delays or obstacles in the lives of their descendants. This concept is often referred to as Pitru Dosh. Pitru Shanti Puja is performed to offer respect, gratitude and peace to these departed souls.
The ceremony typically includes Sankalp (ritual intention), invocation of ancestral spirits, Pitru Tarpan (water offerings), and chanting of the Pitru Mantra:
"Om Devatabhyah Pitribhyashch Mahayogibhya Ev Cha, Namah Swadhayai Swahayai Nityamev Namo Namah"
This translates to salutations to the deities, ancestors and enlightened yogis. Offerings of til (sesame), rice, barley and holy water are made during the ritual, symbolically nourishing the ancestral souls.
Families often choose to perform this puja during Pitru Paksha, on death anniversaries, or when facing recurring obstacles in important life events such as marriage, career or health.
Whether performed as a periodic family tradition or a one-time ritual, Pitru Shanti Puja offers a meaningful way to express gratitude toward one's lineage while praying for peace and stability.
